As a refresher, Echo only captures audio and streams it to the cloud when the device hears the wake word « Alexa. » A ring on the top of the device turns blue to give a visual indication that audio is being recorded. Those clips, or « utterances » as the company calls them, are stored in the cloud until a customer deletes them either individually or all at once. When that’s done, the « utterances » are permanently deleted. What’s more, the microphones on an Echo device can be manually turned off at any time.

Machine Learning (ML) is a fast-moving, competitive field. As important as good algorithms are to ML, the state-of-the-art algorithms are reliably available. Compute clusters are also an important ingredient, and they too are easy to access (especially using services like Amazon EC2 and Amazon EC2 Elastic GPUs). What isn’t reliably available are large-scale high quality data sets. The things you need to train your classifiers. That’s where MTurk comes into play.

Lancé il y a un an aux États-Unis, Amazon Handmade est un nouveau rayon du géant américain spécialisé dans le fait main et les nouveaux artisanats, qui ont fait le succès d’Etsy ou A Little Market. L’univers débarque en France.La France avait un champion local sur le marché de l’artisanat de petites pièces : le site A Little Market. Ce dernier a été racheté en 2014 par Etsy, le leader mondial en terme d’utilisateurs et de vendeurs. Le modèle de ces sites est simple : répondre à une demande toujours croissante pour les produits singuliers et faits mains mais à l’échelle de marchés globalisés.
