Cet exploit porte sur les magasins, les bureaux, les centres de données, ainsi que les sites en colocation dans 43 pays, y compris les États-Unis, le Royaume-Uni, la Chine et l’Inde. L’entreprise a également annoncé que neuf partenaires de la chaîne de production se sont engagés à alimenter toute leur production pour Apple avec de l’énergie propre, ce qui porte à 23 le nombre total de fournisseurs engagés dans cette démarche. ”

“According to OpenAI’s charter, its mission is “to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)—by which we mean highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work—benefits all of humanity.” Leaving aside the question of whether AGI is achievable, or if outsourcing work to machines will benefit all of humanity, it is clear that large-language A.I. engines are creating real harms to all of humanity right now. According to an article in Science for the People, training an A.I. engine requires tons of carbon-emitting energy. “While a human being is responsible for five tons of CO2 per year, training a large neural LM [language model] costs 284 tons. In addition, since the computing power required to train the largest models has grown three hundred thousand times in six years, we can only expect the environmental consequences of these models to increase.””

La chaîne M Le Média a eu recours à un logiciel pour fabriquer de toutes pièces l’avatar féminin baptisé Jade pour la présentation du bulletin météo de l’émission matinale. «Les nouvelles technologies font partie de notre stratégie d’innovation pour offrir à notre audience un contenu de qualité», précise Philippe Morax, directeur général du groupe Millennium Média.”

Il réclame la création d’un centre de compétence dédié. «Le champ d’action du préposé fédéral à la protection des données n’est pas assez étendu pour traiter toutes les problématiques liées aux IA», regrette-t-il. Si la Suisse est en retard en matière de nouvelles technologies, il estime que c’est parce que les élus ne savent pas forcément comment elles marchent et, «plus grave, qu’il y a une volonté de ne pas réguler par pure idéologie, par haine de la régulation pure. Or il est dangereux de ne rien faire et de laisser le privé agir de lui-même.»”

Reddit Wants to Get Paid for Helping to Teach Big A.I. Systems

“Reddit has long had a symbiotic relationship with the search engines of companies like Google and Microsoft. The search engines “crawl” Reddit’s web pages in order to index information and make it available for search results. That crawling, or “scraping,” isn’t always welcome by every site on the internet. But Reddit has benefited by appearing higher in search results. The dynamic is different with L.L.M.s — they gobble as much data as they can to create new A.I. systems like the chatbots. Reddit believes its data is particularly valuable because it is continuously updated. That newness and relevance, Mr. Huffman said, is what large language modeling algorithms need to produce the best results. “More than any other place on the internet, Reddit is a home for authentic conversation,” Mr. Huffman said. “There’s a lot of stuff on the site that you’d only ever say in therapy, or A.A., or never at all.””

Chatbots cannot think like humans: They do not actually understand what they say. They can mimic human speech because the artificial intelligence that powers them has ingested a gargantuan amount of text, mostly scraped from the internet.
This text is the AI’s main source of information about the world as it is being built, and influences how it responds to users. If it aces the law school admissions test, for example, it’s probably because its training data included thousands of LSAT practice sites. Tech companies have grown secretive about what they feed the AI. So The Washington Post set out to analyze one of these data sets to fully reveal the types of proprietary, personal, and often offensive websites that go into an AI’s training data.”

“Chadwick Boseman, Kobe Bryant and Anthony Bourdain are the latest celebrities to be verified under Twitter Blue, the social media platform’s paid-subscription service that allows anyone to get a blue check mark by their display name if they pay $8 a month and confirm their phone number.
Except the actor, athlete and celebrity chef died years ago, before Twitter Blue even existed. Their accounts — and those of at least a dozen other dead celebrities — now feature a blue check, which, if hovered over, displays the message: “This account is verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.””

Netflix is ending its DVD-by-mail subscription service

“Netflix’s signature red envelopes have finally reached their end. After 25 years of sending discs of movies and TV shows to people through the mail, Netflix is discontinuing the DVD subscription business that started it all, the company announced in its Tuesday earnings report.
“There are titles you can’t find elsewhere. Their library was just huge compared to any sort of streaming option,” said Ann Silverthorn, who first started getting DVDs in the mail in 2009. “I really enjoyed being able see the trailers at the beginning of each disc. I would get so many ideas of new old movies that I might like to see and I’d write them down and sure enough, they’d be in their catalogue.”
“I signed up for it on my own as soon as I moved out of my parents’ house. I barely remember when there wasn’t Netflix,” said Wainscott, 38, who isn’t sure what she’ll do now. “Just getting better internet is not an option, and that’s a reality for a lot of people. People who live in big cities don’t always realize that.””
