“A Facebook psychology researcher who previously helped harvest millions of Facebook users’ profiles for the controversial Trump campaign contractor Cambridge Analytica has left the tech giant. In December 2015, when it said it first learned that a pair of Cambridge University researchers had sold the harvested user data to the election firm, Facebook began an investigation and demanded the data be deleted. Around the same time, it also hired Joseph Chancellor, one of the two researchers.”

“The big question remains what data was stolen and how it could potentially be misused. Unless investigators or journalists discover a nefarious application for that data, such as how Cambridge Analytica’s ill-gotten data was used to inform Donald Trump’s campaign strategy, it’s unlikely for the public to see this as more than just another of Facebook’s constant privacy scandals. It could still trigger regulation, or push partners away from using Facebook’s login system, but the world seems to be growing numb to the daily cybersecurity breaches that plague the internet. ”

California Gov. Jerry Brown at a May event in Sacramento. On Sunday, he signed a bill reinstating Obama-era open-internet rules in the state.

“California Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday signed a bill reinstating Obama-era open-internet rules in the state, and the Justice Department responded almost immediately with a lawsuit seeking to overturn the law. In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that the federal government, not the states, should oversee the internet, and California had “enacted an extreme and illegal state law attempting to frustrate federal policy.””

“The idea of streaming such graphically-rich content that requires near-instant interaction between the game controller and the graphics on the screen poses a number of challenges.  When streaming TV or movies, consumers are comfortable with a few seconds of buffering at the start, but streaming high-quality games requires latency measured in milliseconds, with no graphic degradation.”

“Exit donc Cambridge Analytica ?

A monk listens to music at a temple in Luang Prabang October 27, 2007. Luang Prabang, a sleepy town in northern Laos situated at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong River, is home to more than 30 Buddhist temples dating back to the 1500's; and has become a popular tourist destination. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, paving the way for its restoration and preservation.

“What is the sound of you?” This was a question Ancestry, the world’s largest for-profit genealogy company, recently asked its users. Its in-home saliva test can give you an idea of where you’ve come from—but how can you translate that new-found knowledge into something more tangible? Music might be the answer. Ancestry has collaborated with Spotify to determine your musical DNA based on your AncestryDNA test results. “It’s so much more than the stats and the data and the records,”says Vineet Mehra, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Ancestry. “How do we help people experience their culture and not just read about it? Music seemed like an obvious way to do that.”

“Facebook moderators under contract are “bombarded” with “thousands of videos, images and livestreamed broadcasts of child sexual abuse, rape, torture, bestiality, beheadings, suicide and murder,” the lawsuit said. “Facebook is ignoring its duty to provide a safe workplace and instead creating a revolving door of contractors who are irreparably traumatized by what they witnessed on the job,” Korey Nelson, a lawyer for former Facebook contract employee Selena Scola”.
